The best part of family reunions is getting to catch up on what everyone's been doing since the last time we all got together! It was great to have Jeff Gawthrop in from Denmark (Steve's son) and Missy (Larry's daughter) as well as Deloris, Bill (her son) and Bruce that we haven't seen for a few years! Of course we missed all our loved ones that couldn't make it and remembered those that have passed on to the "great reunion" in the sky!
It was complete with all the usual recipes that we look forward to and some new ones! Someone needs to collect them all and make a family recipe book! Let's see a show of hands that will organize that little feat! :) Needless to say we were all stuffed and there were no apple dumplings left. Mom (JoAnn) even attempted to make the white cake that Grandmother was famous for and we all remember to this day! She came pretty close to the bonofide original!
The rain held out until we finished dessert and then it suddenly swept us inside where we finished visiting and catching up! The day was beautiful and ended with hugs and kisses until we meet again next year! Put it on your calenders now... August 1, 2009 will be our next reunion! Until then, keep reading the blog!

Furnace is in!
As of August 21st, the gas furnaces are in and will keep the cold out and heat in! I had a 2 ton and a 4 ton installed. One will run the downstairs dining, kitchen, bathroom, laundry and loft (thermostat in the dining room); the other will run the living room, bedroom, sunporch and upstairs (thermostat in the sunporch). For the most part all the duct work was hidden in closets though there was no way to get to the living room or downstairs bedroom except exposing the duct work which is in the process of being covered up in the foyer. Other than that, it went along with no hitches and I was pleased when they finished a day early so I could clean up all the dust created.
While I was there, the termite inspection was done and nothing was found and he even commented on how dry it was under the house due to the newly installed ventilation screens that open and close depending on the outside temps.
I am in the process too of having the individual gas furnaces removed. If anyone wants one, please let me know soon otherwise they will be donated! Also, hopefully before winter a more energy efficient back door (one the mice can't climb through)and window will be installed in the laundry room that will further assist in keeping that end of the house warm during winter.
